Every year I attend a fabulous event for moms called Getting Gorgeous developed by masterminds Vera and Audrey who are iconic mom bloggers.  It’s an excuse for me to go into NYC and get a little bit of pampering.  This was my 4th Getting Gorgeous (I think)….I remember when Vera and I were sitting in our town library as our kids attending story time all those years ago and she told me this idea she and her “new friend” had :)

Vera, Me, Audrey

VO5 was the title sponsor and I as I got there a bit early, I raced over to that section and got GORGEOUS with a fabulous hairstyle as I heard about all of the great products.

BALI Intimates was there doing bra fittings and definitely the quote of the day was when the bra fitter said to me “You’re so small yet you’re so big!” :) :)

Vitabath introduced me to some new smells and it was awesome. And then I headed to Stop & Shop who was there showing some summer dishes!

Calgon was there featuring a fortune-teller for all of the attendants! That was pretty cool.

And before I headed back to Long Island I got an amazing mini foot rub!

The Tooth Fairy Keepsake Book Review

22 Aug

If you read anything I write, I think it’s pretty easy to deduce that I am very loopy and emotional sentimental, especially when it comes to my children. I keep records of their physical exams, their infant feeding schedules, their first words, etc, etc. In fact, the motivating force behind this blog is to RECORD all the details of their adorable existences!

So it makes complete sense that ever since that first tooth came out last month, I have been seeking and searching for the perfect keepsake holder for the precious little teeth…enter The Tooth Fairy Keepsake Book.  This is my answer to the question of where to store my children’s baby teeth!  (I would NEVER throw them away, but I am also the mother who saved their umbilical cord scabs…)

When the Tooth Fairy heard you lost a tooth, do you know what she did? She made a map to visit you ’cause you’re a special kid! First she got your home address and checked her fairy map, then she flew to your place where she saw your brand new “gap”. Of course, she took your worn-out tooth, just like she’s always done.  But she’s left something nice instead to help you have some fun!

This is a keepsake holder to display baby teeth as the child loses them. This keepsake is a box formed in a hardback story book. On the inside, it displays on the left a poem regarding the Tooth Fairy and the child. On the right side is a diagram showing the graphical representations and dental terminology that corresponds with your child’s twenty baby teeth. There are date entry lines for filling in the dates that a child’s baby teeth fell out. As the teeth fall out, you poke a hole in the correct location where the tooth has fallen out on the diagram. Then, add a little bit of water base glue, push the baby tooth in to display the teeth, and remember them the way they were in your child’s mouth. It will be an heirloom collectible for any parent and child.

This is exactly what I need x3!  My little guy’s tiny front tooth is already glued into its new home.  I plan to get one for each child (2 pink and 1 blue) and hide them away as I collect and record.  When the tooth fairy is no longer visiting our home I will surprise the children with their books.

I searched for a while to find something for those precious teeth and I am so thrilled with The Tooth Fairy Keepsake Book!  There are other great tooth fairy related gifts on the site (http://toothfairykeepsakegifts.com/) too :)

Where do YOU keep your child/ren’s teeth?

Hanes Makes Sleepwear!

23 Jun

I’ve worked at hospitals since 1995 and since 1995 I’ve been wearing hospital scrubs to bed.  Pretty sad.

I just can’t be bothered to buy pajamas because they never end up lasting or feeling comfortable enough.  But I recently had an opportunity to try out the capri sleep set from Hanes…..awesome experience!

Well, I’m not shocked that they are extremely comfortable because that seems to be Hanes strength…comfort!  The other thing I love is that they are cool.  (Tangent — Have you found your body temperature rising since you had kids?  I used to be cold all the time and now it’s just the opposite.)

And the final aspect of these pjs that I like is that I can walk outside and get the newspaper without being embarrassed because they are cute!

Check them out and all the comfortable clothes for the family at Hanes.com.

New Book: My First Day of Kindergarten by Kristin J. Minuto

24 Mar

Do you have a child approaching kindergarten?

If so, you should definitely check out one of the books we’ve been reading lately,  My First Day of Kindergarten.  My kids were amazed (and it surprised me how excited it got them) that I know the author, Kristen Minuto, a very sweet mother (and teacher) from my town.  It makes reading the book so much more exciting for us and my daughter has even exclaimed, “I really love how she writes!”… I’m not kidding!

My kindergarteners are pretty mesmerized when I read it, as they draw comparisons between their classes and routines and the ones they are hearing about as they follow a little boy through his first day of school.

It’s really a bright, colorful and adorable book that I would absolutely recommend.  We actually started reading books like this as my kids entered nursery school.  I know we’ll be getting a lot of use out of this book as we start talking about kindergarten with my 3-year-old.  You can check out My First Day of Kindergarten here or here.  And speaking of adorable, here is my son’s artistic representation of it from his homework journal :)

Don’t forget how important it is to read to your kids!  What children’s books are you reading these days?

The Stupids Step Out

1 Dec

Have you ever read any of the Stupids books?  I enjoyed this one as a child, so my parents brought it for the kids over Thanksgiving.  They can not get enough of it!

Yesterday I went to each of the twins classrooms to read some books and hand out cupcakes.  They both chose this book (so I read it twice plus a princess book and a transformers book).   The kids were hysterical.  I mean they were laughing so hard they couldn’t even hear me reading.  What’s better than a roomful of kids giggling?

It took the edge off.  I know my post yesterday was annoying, but I do have a sinus infection so let’s chalk it up to illness!  And actually everyone here is sick and coughing on each other.  We’re all tired too.  My little one passed out on the couch with the TV blasting, lights on and her siblings inches away from her face.

Ohhh that mouth!

I’m off to medicate myself with Nyquil.

What books are you reading to your kids these days?

Züpers Leggings Review and Giveaway — ENTER TO WIN

2 Nov

I have 3 little ones.  They fall down constantly, especially my 3-year-old.  We go through dozens of pairs of tights.  Just yesterday she fell down while trick or treating and her brand new clean tights were shredded.  So this is why I was intrigued when I heard about Züpers Leggings.

Basically they are adorable, stylish and functional leggings for little girls with removable knee pads = genius!  They are made with cool rip resistant fabric and come in all sorts of funky designs.

My girls (who are 4 and 3) love love love them!  I mean, I was actually surprised at how much they love them.  I think they find them very comfortable and the knee pads are different and cool.  Over the past couple of weeks I’ve had a couple of moms approach me at the park to ask about them.  The designs really stand out and they are just overall great leggings.

Would you like a pair?

Züpers is offering a pair of Mod print (pictured above)  leggings size 12-18 months to one Just Another Manic Mommy reader! (so perfect for the little one that is learning how to walk!!!)

Finders Key Purse® AND a Hang ‘Em High Purse Hanger Giveaway — ENTER TO WIN (closed 10/15/10)

8 Oct

Do you know where your keys are?!

Do you rush around all day like me and spend many valuable minutes searching for those keys?  They often get tossed somewhere with the grocery bags and the next thing I know my 3-year-old has found them and is in the driveway, pressing the buttons, trying to open the door, but setting off the alarm instead……

But, I am so lucky to have received an awesome solution to this problem.

The Finders Key Purse®
is a key clasp that hooks to the side of your purse while decorating the outside with a cute design.  See for me it’s not enough to leave my keys in my bag.  Bags are so oversized these days and I am constantly rifling through all my junk to find my keys (usually in a parking lot, in the rain, with 25 bags and 3 children wandering around).  The Finders Key Purse® hooks onto the side of your bag and that’s it!  There’s a spot for the keys.  They are easy to find.  And your bag is adorned with a variety of designs to choose from including a personalized photo.  Love it!

I tell you I am in love with this product.  My keys are no longer lost items in my home.  Now if someone could tell me what I did with the cup of tea I made this morning I’d be very happy (yes I really lost a cup of a hot tea).

SO, here’s the good news….

One (1) lucky Just Another Manic Mommy reader will win one (1) Finders Key Purse® AND one (1) Hang ‘Em High purse hanger (shown below)

Getting Gorgeous NYC Event

11 Aug

I attended another blogging event coordinated by my most fashionable friend Vera Sweeney and Audrey McClelland.

An event about fashion and beauty targeted to moms makes so much sense.  I don’t have time for fashion and beauty in my life, and when I do have a free moment, my attitude is why bother!  That leaves me wearing  jeans and t-shirts every day looking and feeling blah.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

I felt very un blah at Getting Gorgeous

Here are some of the highlights:

Celebrity stylist Robert Verdi sent me flying high when he told me I have  “a great perky butt”. Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

(Okay I don’t necessarily believe him but it was nice to hear in light of the fact that on a typical day I’m hearing things like what my 3-year-old said to me yesterday,”Mom you look like disgusting.”)

He told me this while I was being fitted for a pair of Miraclebody jeans.  The jeans that make you look 10 lbs lighter in 10 seconds.  Why would I not wear jeans that make me look lighter!!?  I ended up with jeggings, at Robert Verdi’s insistence even though I told him I have stayed away from leggings since I first saw them in the 80’s!  But damn I like those jeggings believe or not and it was nice to walk away with something different.

Skechers Shape-Ups started the day off by giving out trainers to some of the moms who decided to take part in the morning Skechers walk. I wasn’t there for that but did get to hear all about the new line of shape-ups for running which sounded cool.

Lia Sophia showed off pieces of their Fall 2010 jewelry line and gave each of us the choice between 4 of their pieces. I got this bracelet and I’m loving it.

I got to hear about Hanes and the new ComfortFlex Fit Bra again and got another easy size comfy bra.

I was excited to talk to the people at Tide because it really is the only detergent I use (this preference was inherited from my mom!).  The new product, Swash, eliminates the need for an iron or fabric freshener for moms like me that have no time or patience for ironing. I witnessed the demonstration: spray, give your clothes a little smooth and pull and the wrinkles are gone.  Wonderful!

Remington was there to introduce the Remington Pearl line along with celebrity stylist Richard Marin.  He and the other stylists were pampering some of the lucky moms with hair tips. I am beyond excited to try out  The Wet-to-dry flat iron..what a great giveaway!

Kmart Design showed off their top 5 Fall Fashion looks for under $50. I saw a lot of camouflage.  My son will be very excited if he sees me wearing some of those looks!

Thanks to Powermat I can now enjoying the freedom and convenience of charging without plugging and unplugging and keeping track of all mine and my husband’s chargers.  Awesome.

Oh and Kodak had a really cool booth set up.  I made a great photo collage from my own memory card that my in-laws are going to love!

Other sponsors were E.L.F. Makeup, Sarah Potempa and Shopafrolic.

Vera and Audrey did an amazing job.  It’s been a real wake up for me that just because I am being climbed on and spilled on and tantrumed on all day doesn’t mean I shouldn’t think about looking good!

It’s true when you look good you feel better, right?
