As a former violinist and lover of all music I am thrilled to find out about a cool music program here on Long Island for kids!
Beyond Rock is a music program for kids age 7-17. They’ve been around since 1992 and pride themselves on their unparalleled ability to guide children in developing artistic and technical musical skills. By using rock music and bands as a vehicle, a community of fun, friendship, and safety that encourages personal and musical growth for everyone who enters it is created. Simply put, they change lives through music. And equally important, they seriously rock out and have a great time doing it.
All of their programs put an emphasis on creativity. At camp, Beyond Rockers will write and perform their very own songs while developing techniques from some of their favorite instructors (all renowned musicians themselves.) By the completion of their program, they will be ready to perform, rocking out their creation on stage at the famous Mulcahy’s Music Hall! The best part is the low staff to student ratio which allows them the ability to welcome all levels without compromising any single person’s experience.
This year, in addition to their one and two-week signature summer programs accommodating ages 7 – 17, they’re also debuting their first ever Spring Break Mini-Camp. Three full days of rocking out for kids who will be vacationing from school and parents who may not be vacationing from work! Also sounds like a great option for moms like me who are home with the kids during school breaks, breaking up fights. 
Another part of their program that’s wonderful is that for each student that registers for Beyond Rock, they will “Play it Forward” and give a free music lesson to a child who can’t afford it. So by participating in any of the programs, you’re not only doing something awesome for you, but for the local community!
